Author Interview: Sue Grafton

Sue Grafton is  is one of America’s most popular and most honored crime novelists. Named a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America in 2009, Sue Grafton is the #1 NY Times bestselling author of the Kinsey Millhone Mystery series which started with A IS FOR ALIBI back in 1982 and continues through the alphabet and through the years to her most recent release V IS FOR VENGEANCE. Sue is on tour for the new book and joined me by phone last week to talk about the book and the series in general.

Want to know how Sue comes up with her titles?  If she always planned to write 26 novels?  Why she kept Kinsey in the 80’s and the amount of research she now has to do to be true to the time period? We talked about it all, as well as digging into some of the themes and details in V IS FOR VENGEANCE.  As it turns out, the frank and funny Ms. Grafton is a big fan of vengeance.  She says forgiveness is fine, but vengeance is far more satisfying!

If you’re a fan of the series, I know you’ll enjoy the interview and the book.  Be sure to check out our interviews with some other great mystery writers in our podcast series on iTunes!

Great interview! You asked all the right questions, the stuff I’ve wondered through all the books, particularly why she stays in the 80s. Every time Kinsey has to track down a pay phone I have to do a mental reset to the 80s.
