In the headlines:

  • The new Diet Pepsi is not going over well. PepsiCo recently replaced the artificial sweetener aspartame with the less-controversial sucralose in a bid to reverse plunging industrywide diet-soda sales. Alas, the trend still appears to be downward as Diet Pepsi loyalists are using words like “yuck” and “unpalatable” to broadcast their distaste on social media.

  • Volkswagen’s top U.S. executive apologized yesterday for a year long deception but rejected suggestions there was a broad conspiracy at VW to cheat on diesel-emissions tests. Instead, he says a few rogue engineers are the likely culprits in the scandal. Seriously? Follow the money people. Dana says she’s quite sure the execs had more to gain here than the engineers and really hopes someone in the ranks talks.

  • Atlanta radio host Mike Bell, a sports-talk host on 92.9 The Game, the flagship station for the Atlanta Falcons, has been suspended following offensive tweets directed at Jessica Mendoza, who Tuesday became the first woman to call a televised Major League Baseball playoff game. Bell called ESPN’s Jessica Mendoza “Mendoza Tits McGee” and tweeted an offensive question for the respected analyst. After taking quite a bit of heat online, Bell apologized. But too late – damage done. The Falcon’s weighed in on Twitter saying they are “Embarrassed by Mike Bell’s comments, given he’s on our flagship station. Inappropriate and disappointing.”

  • The state of Florida has lost yet another film to Georgia. With their tax credit tapped out through 2016, Florida just can’t compete – so now, 2 movies set in Florida are actually filming in part of Georgia made to look like Florida. Seems like the tax credit cap they set is backfiring.

  • Crescent Communities is planning a 25-story tower close to Lenox Square mall. Enough already! Dana says she’s all for progress – but Buckhead traffic is already a nightmare and adding that many more cars? Ugh. Maybe a Buckhead Streetcar could help?

  • And speaking of public transit… MARTA had a data breach of sort earlier this week. Or did they? Bottom line, 785 employees had their personal info shared with someone other than them… so whether it was human or machine error, it’s not cool.
