Summer is proving to be a busy time for all of us here at Midtown Review – so I thought I should give you an update on all of our literary adventures!
Book Expo America — Our intrepid reporter Denise Neary just got back from a book lover’s paradise where she reports that she attended breakfasts with Roger Ebert, Anne Enright, Jefferey Eugenides, Charlaine Harris, Diane Keaton, and Erik Larson, went to a tea moderated by Starr Jones (really) with Karin Slaughter, and Brad Meltzer, and crashed a librarians lunch where Chuck Palahniuk, Spencer Quinn, Julie Kagawa, David Baldacci, Diana Abu-Jaber, and Tom Perrotta were hanging out. I for one love the fact that all of the events with the big name authors included food. We’ll have more from BEA in upcoming posts.
Poetry Class Starting Soon – Our in-house poet Amy Pence is coming down from the mountain to teach some poetry classes this month and if you’re in the Atlanta area, you can join her! She will be doing four poetry workshops this month on Tuesdays from 11:00-1:00 at The Coffee Pot in downtown Alpharetta. Pence is author of the poetry collection The Decadent Lovely and the chapbook Skin’s Dark Night. Her forthcoming book, Armor, Amour will be published by Ninebark Press in 2012. Donations will be $20 per class and $75.00 for all four classes and are tax-deductible as the donations benefit Ninebark Press.. The group will be small (4-8 students). We will read and discuss contemporary poems, participate in in-class poetry exercises, and workshop poems from the group. If you’re interested in joining, contact Amy at email@example.com to reserve a space.
Gone With the Wind Turns 75 – In celebration of the book, the Atlanta History Center has been providing wonderful programming all year from exhibits to lectures and more and on June 30th, they will be hosting 4 authors for a talk entitled: Inspired by Margaret: Four Georgia Authors Discuss how Margaret Mitchell Inspired Their Work. The event will include food provided by PittyPat’s Porch and yours truly will be moderating the event! I would love to see all of you there!
Midtown Review Book Club – We had a great meeting last night to discuss TEN BEACH ROAD and had the pleasure of having the author, Wendy Wax, join us for the festivities! Pictures will be on our Facebook page later today. Our June pick is THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins. Join us in person if you’re in Atlanta (http://www.meetup.com/MidtownReview/) or use our picks to start your own Midtown Review Book Club!
Phew. I’m tired just thinking about all we have going on! Or that could just be the heat getting to me.
