VP of Strategy and Innovation at SCAD Atlanta, John-Paul Rowan and Serial Entrepreneur, Investor, Author and Speaker, KP Reddy joined Dana live in studio to talk about innovations in the art world as well as a One Day Accelerator to get your business going.

The Savannah College of Art and Design is a private, nonprofit, accredited institution conferring bachelor’s and master’s degrees at distinctive locations to prepare talented students for professional careers. SCAD offers degrees in more than 40 majors, as well as minors in more than 60 disciplines. With over 29,000 alumni worldwide, SCAD demonstrates an exceptional education and unparalleled career preparation.

The next One Day Accelerator is this Saturday, August 1st. Local 1 day accelerators are where you create your training plan for your race to entrepreneurship. Before you arrive at a starting line for a race, you’ve done some prep work and educated yourself on what it will take to train for a successful race. This initial class is where you will learn the basics for creating your hypothesis, doing customer discovery and reviewing your plan with an experienced entrepreneur.

In the headlines:

  • City of Atlanta COO, Michael Geisler has resigned effective August 6. Geisler became COO early last year but had been with the city for about three years, serving earlier as CFO of the Department of Watershed Management.  Deputy COO Kristin Wilson will serve as interim COO. Reed will announce a permanent successor to Geisler within the next 10 days.
  • The Atlanta Braves are building their new stadium at a lightning pace to be ready for Opening Day 2017 – but because of that, some questions are being raised about whether or not they are cutting corners – and fairly bidding out all aspects of the project.
  • The FCC has approved AT&T’s $48.5 billion acquisition of DirecTV.
  • Amazon is at it again. Last week we talked about Amazon getting into the “home services” business – competing with Home Advisor, Thumbtack and Angie’s List… well this week it’s the grocery business. They’ve already gotten into the space with their Prime Pantry, but now they are looking at creating brick and mortar drive through grocery stores. (Where you order online, of course).
