Jamie Ford is a funny guy… and oh yeah, a really great writer who by the way is a dude… in case you weren’t sure. In fact, his book, HOTEL ON THE CORNER OF BITTER AND SWEET is one of my favorite reads from the past couple of years. The book is a well researched, and more importantly heartfelt look at love, friendship, and loyalty against the backdrop of Seattle in the 1940s with its Jazz scene, and the evacuation of its Japanese residents to interment camps.
I first read the book two years ago and then again last week when I knew I was going to get the chance to chat with Jamie. But it wasn’t until I looked at his website that I knew Jamie had a sense of humor and was going to be a fun interview.
Of course we talked in detail about the research that went into the book and the inspiration for some of the characters but we also talked about Jamie’s sordid past spent running from his Amish past. Not. But we did talk about his real background and how he got into writing and some of the projects he has in in the works, (which are top secret and title-less at this point, so you’ll have to listen to the interview for the scoop).
Enjoy the interview and don’t forget to check out the rest of the author interview series now available on iTunes!
