In the headlines:

  • Atlanta has scored another professional sports team.  This time it’s Lacrosse.  Who knew?  The Minnesota Swarm is about to become the Georgia Swarm.  They will play at The Arena at Gwinnett Center, which also hosts the Gwinnett Gladiators minor league hockey team.
  • More expansion for Georgia Tech is possibly in the works.  This time it’s a health and biosciences innovation district possibly planned for the west side, along North Avenue which is currently a fairly economically distressed area.
  • Speaking of the west side… an edgy new office building planned for the Atlantic Station area is also aimed at startups and early stage companies.  The building, called T3, will have a timber frame and be skinned with ceramic brick, steel and glass.  It will be a warehouse-style building, without the inefficient heating and cooling systems and poor acoustics typically associated with those kinds of spaces.
  • Moving into midtown, another downtrodden area may be getting a boost.  Greystar Real Estate Partners is proposing two high-rise towers on the north side of Midtown, becoming the latest developer to consider a big project along primarily overlooked sections of West Peachtree and Spring streets.
