Whether you love them, hate them or hate to admit you love them, you can’t argue with one thing, Starbucks has always been pretty good at giving the people what they want:

Coffee on every corner? Check.
Need something to eat with that?  Check.
How ’bout some free internet and interesting content to boot?  Check.  Check.

Well now – when you’re hanging out on the WiFi at your local Starbucks, drinking your oh so complicated Venti Decaf Skinny Carmel Macchiato you can enjoy some free books on the Starbucks Digital Network.  Here’s the deal:  Starbucks is offering you access to four books at a time for approximately two weeks.  The trick is you can only read the books while sitting in your local Starbucks.  Not a bad plan on their part… if you get hooked you just have to keep going back and ordering more lattes.

The books are all from major publishing houses and range in topics and genres.  For example, the books featured right now are:

THE OUTLAWS by W.E.B Griffin, THE CYPRESS HOUSE by Michael Kortya, THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MARK TWAIN by Charles Neider and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: Stefan’s Diaries #2: Bloodlust by L.J. Smith.  Like I said, quite a range!

I imagine the plan works well for the publishers as well.  After all, if you get hooked and DON’T feel like going back to Starbucks, you’re pretty likely to go out and buy the book!

In other Starbucks news, a new logo (as seen on the cup above) will be rolled out starting in March this year AND drum roll please, they are looking at introducing beer and wine after 4PM!  They’re already test marketing the concept at one of their Seattle locations.
