In the guest chair:
Serial entrepreneur, KP Reddy joined Dana in studio this morning to discuss his new projects: CTW Venture Partners and SoftWear Automation Inc. Investments, growth and the “fail fast” entrepreneurial trend were also hot topics.
CTW Venture Partners invests in early-stage entrepreneurs in Atlanta and the southeast, providing expertise and helping them to grow.
In the headlines:
- Ocwen Financial Corp., the Atlanta based mortgage company, will pay $150 million towards homeowner aid and their executive chairman, William C. Erbey will step down as part of an agreement with the New York State Department of Financial Services over subprime mortgages.
- The NLRB (National Labor & Relations Board) has officially filed charges against McDonald’s and some if it’s franchisees, accusing them of retaliating against employees who participated in wage protests across the country. The big news here is that they have treated McDonald’s corporate as a joint employer with their franchisees, saying they have “sufficient control” over the franchisees’ operations and are therefore liable. (This could be precedent setting and change the face of franchising).
- Atlanta’s MacStadium has raised $1 million from an angel investor to continue their growth. They provide dedicated Apple Mac hosting and cloud computing services for software developers.
- Atlanta’s Worldpay (who we just announced was moving from Sandy Springs to Atlantic Station and adding 600 jobs) has just acquired Austin-based SecureNet. They are said to have pioneered the payment industry’s only cloud-based service to integrate point-of-sale, mobile and eCommerce payments processing, inventory management and data analytics for merchants.
