Stieg Larsson has become a household name. His Millennium Trilogy has been topping the bestseller lists now for what seems like forever. You can’t walk into a book shop or big box store without catching site of one of the books.
THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE, and THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET’S NEST introduced many of us to Sweden for the first time and to the complex characters of Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomqvist, who has some similarities to the late author. Like his main character, Larsson was also a politically liberal journalist with threats against him and he also founded a magazine.
Though his death was not sinister, (a chain smoker, he died of a massive heart attack), he did not live to see the success of his books nor the drama surrounding the 40 million+ estate he has amassed with no will. He did, however, share his often dramatic life with Eva Gabrielsson, his partner for 32 years. The couple never married for what amounts to security reasons, so she has been frustrated not only with the handling of the financial estate, but also of the Stieg’s literary legacy.
She may also be the only person alive who has access to the mysterious fourth book. Is it real? Or did Stieg just share his plans for Lisbeth with Eva verbally? Either way – can Eva produce that fourth book? (She is a writer herself, and rumor has it she contributed heavily to the books).
She’s not saying. At least not yet. But Eva Gabrielsson is set to release her story in a book of vignettes about their life together, their activism and deep political passion and her thoughts on the saga of Stieg’s legacy. The book is set for publication in June 2011 and is still without a title.
So stay tuned… the story continues.
